One Roll of Film at The Irish Open
This project was photographed at the 2025 Irish Open at the K Club in County Kildare. Shot on a single roll of Kodak Portra 400 using a Leica M6, the series explores the rhythm of observation and participation within a public event. The self-imposed limitation of 36 exposures became a method of slowing down and engaging more deliberately with the experience of spectating.
Rather than focusing on the professional spectacle of the tournament, the work turns attention toward the quieter exchanges that exist around it. The images observe the spectators, the fleeting gestures of anticipation, and the moments of stillness that punctuate the collective attention of the crowd.
Through the physical and temporal limitations of film, the series reflects on photography as both an act of presence and restraint. It considers how looking through a viewfinder can exist in balance with simply looking, and how the discipline of choosing when not to photograph can deepen the experience of seeing.
